Lawsuit filed against Impact Cleaning Services
A janitor has filed a statement of claim in the Superior Court of Justice alleging that his employer, Impact Cleaning Services Limited, has failed to pay him overtime in accordance with the Employment Standards Act (ESA).
“I thought everything was legitimate because I didn’t think a big company like Impact would dare try to cheat people in such an obvious way,” says Steve Singer, the Impact Janitor making the claim. Singer says he had not been paid overtime over a period of six years, despite working nearly 70 hours a week for the company during that time.
Singer learned Impact was breaking the law when he called the Ministry of Labour to make an inquiry on a different matter. After learning he was owed overtime he contacted Impact, but they told him he would not be getting paid any overtime. A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Singer by SEIU Local 2 against Impact, seeking $23,300 in damages. see lawsuit
Calls for an Investigation of Impact
Impact Cleaning Services continues to cheat workers
This lawsuit is not the first claim against Impact Cleaning Services. Last year, a comprehensive complaint against Impact was filed with the Ministry of Labour alleging, among other things, that Impact employed a subcontracting scheme intended to circumvent various laws including the ESA and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
The Ministry of Labour has yet to take action on behalf of Impact employees.
